Several persons are feared dead following an attack by suspected herdsmen along the Odugbeho–Aila Road in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State.

DAILY POST gathered that the victims were returning from their farms when the assailants, who had reportedly laid an ambush, opened fire on them.

The exact number of casualties remains unclear at the time of this report, however, at least four bodies have reportedly been recovered from the scene.

Among the victims were identified as Joy Simon and Lyta Monet.

Efforts to get official confirmation proved abortive, as the Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, Edet Udeme, did not respond to calls and messages sent to him.

Similarly, calls placed to the Agatu Local Government Chairman, Melvin Ejeh, were not answered as of the time of filing this report.
