The Executive Chairman of Apa Local Government Area, Adam Ochega Ogwola, has strongly condemned the recent killings in Ikobi community, describing the incident as a brutal assault on humanity and peace in the area.
Ogwola expressed deep sorrow over reports that three residents were ambushed, killed, and beheaded in the community, saying the attack has further worsened insecurity in Apa LGA.
DAILY POST recalls that suspected herdsmen ambushed and killed a health officer identified as Ojama Emie in Ikobi, Apa Local Government Area of Benue State, on Monday morning.
Reacting, Ogwola noted that the continuous wave of violence has left residents in fear, disrupted farming activities, and forced families into mourning, warning that such attacks threaten the survival and stability of the community.
According to him, the incident is not only criminal but also a violation of the constitutional right to life, calling for immediate intervention from both federal and state authorities.
The council chairman urged the Federal Government, the Benue State Government, and security agencies to urgently deploy additional personnel and surveillance resources to the area, particularly along the Ikobi–Ugbokpo axis.
He stressed the need for swift investigation and prosecution of those responsible, adding that failure to ensure justice could encourage further violence and weaken public trust in security institutions.
Ogwola also appealed for emergency relief and support for affected families and residents displaced by the attacks, noting that protecting lives and property remains a core responsibility of the government.
While calling on residents to remain calm, he advised them against taking the law into their own hands, urging continued cooperation with security agencies through timely information sharing.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working with state and federal authorities to restore lasting peace in Apa LGA, insisting that the killings must stop immediately.
