Veteran Nollywood actor Adewale Elesho Adeoye, popularly known as Baba Elesho, has sparked reactions online after revealing that his wife is the head of his family.
The actor made the statement while speaking during an interview, where he recounted a personal family experience involving his mother and wife.
Mother’s Health Condition
Elesho explained that his mother had been struggling with an eye condition for years and had been living with one of his younger siblings during that period.
Although she was not staying with him, he said he doesn’t stop fulfilling his responsibilities by supporting and checking on her regularly.
Visit to His Mother
The actor revealed that things took an emotional turn when he visited his mother and realised she was deeply unhappy with her living situation.
Recalling the moment, he said:
“The day I went to bring her from my younger sibling’s home, I had gone there to check on her and perform my duty as a son. My mum said she would rather be thrown into the sea than remain where she was because she wasn’t comfortable there.”
Following the conversation, he decided to take his mother to Lagos.
Why I Spoke to My Wife First
Despite deciding to bring his mother home, Elesho said he did not immediately take her into the house.
He revealed that after arriving, he left his mother in the car and went upstairs to speak with his wife first.
“It was on Sunday, I went upstairs to meet my wife, prostrated and told her I had a visitor. She asked who, I replied Alhaja.”
According to him, his wife questioned why she had not been informed earlier, giving him the opportunity to explain the circumstances surrounding his mother’s arrival.
“She asked what happened and I explained everything. I told her that my mum said if there was nowhere else to take her, I should throw her into the sea, and that was why I brought her.”
“My Wife Is the Head of My Family”
Elesho explained that informing his wife before bringing his mother inside was intentional because decisions affecting the home should involve her.
He said:
“I came to speak with my wife first because she had to know about it. You own the home and your reactions matter.”
The actor added that mutual respect and understanding guide his family structure, stressing that in his home, his wife takes the lead.
“My wife is the head of my family,” he stated.
