INEC distributes sensitive materials for Ondo South bye-election

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Ondo State has distributed sensitive electoral materials for the forthcoming Ondo South Senatorial District bye-election.

According to a statement issued by the Head of Department of Voter Education and Publicity, Olayinka Ogunseye, the distribution exercise took place at the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, in Akure on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at 9:00 a.m.

The Commission stated that political parties, party representatives, security agencies, accredited observers, members of civil society organisations and the general public were notified of the exercise.

It also extended invitations to members of the press and accredited media organisations to cover the event.

INEC said, “the exercise formed part of preparations for the bye-election across the six local government areas that make up the Ondo South Senatorial District.”

The Commission noted that the process was conducted openly to ensure transparency and public confidence in the electoral process.

The statement added that, “the Commission, under the leadership of the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Mutiu Agboke, remained committed to promoting public engagement in all its activities.

“INEC Ondo State remains steadfastly committed to fostering robust public engagement across all activities of the Commission, thereby enhancing transparency, participation and public awareness.”

Reaffirming the Commission’s commitment to a credible election, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Agboke, stated that “nothing will determine the winner of any election in Ondo State other than the votes of the people.”
