Mark Ruffalo has never shied away from sharing his political views, and he did so again following Abdul El-Sayed’s victory in Michigan’s Democratic primary.
The Marvel star pointed to El-Sayed’s win after the candidate overcame what Ruffalo described as a smear campaign from his opponent, Congresswoman Haley Stevens, in the lead-up to the election.
Taking to Bluesky, Ruffalo celebrated Abdul El-Sayed’s victory in Michigan’s Democratic Senate primary.
The actor was especially pleased with the outcome because he believed the candidate he endorsed had faced an uphill battle against Haley Stevens, who was backed by much of the Democratic Party leadership.
“And beat 60 mil in PAC and AIPAC funding against him,” Ruffalo wrote, referencing the financial backing he claimed El-Sayed was up against.
He added, “They smeared him, they contorted his resume and played racist anti-Muslim games, and they got nothing. We don’t want it anymore. We want justice, we want fairness, and we want your money out of our political system. Get out.”
4Many social media users joined Ruffalo in celebrating El-Sayed’s victory, with several arguing that the Democratic Party has become complacent when it comes to backing the right candidates.
“It’s been their game for decades now, and so many people are waking up. DSA has exploded, and I know a lot of my friends switched to No Party Preference in CA,” one user wrote.
“We’re all tired of the passive ‘people will vote for us because we aren’t Republicans’ and electing corporate Dems who do nothing to fight back. Exhausting,” the individual added.
“DNC leadership doesn’t want to win. Their priority (like many politicians) is to get just enough votes… to keep their chairs, government paychecks and benefits, sweet insider trading info and lobbying money,” another critic claimed.
Ruffalo Backed El-Sayed Before Election Day
4Before the primary, El-Sayed received a public endorsement from Ruffalo in a video fundraiser.
“This is our movement coming to bear fruit. I mean, this is what we started in 2016. This is where the progressives have been moving,” Ruffalo said.
“This is our time. And they have to spend more and more money each time to beat us. And it’s just a matter of time till they flop, and this could be it,” he added.
At the time, Ruffalo predicted that an El-Sayed victory would signal the Democratic Party’s establishment wing being pushed aside by progressives, regardless of the massive sums spent during election campaigns.
The A-list Actor Previously Targeted Trump At Golden Globes
4Beyond his social media posts, Ruffalo has also been outspoken about his political views during high-profile public appearances.
Earlier this year, he used his appearance at the Golden Globes to criticize the Trump administration over the war in Venezuela.
“We’re in the middle of a war with Venezuela that we illegally invaded. He’s telling the world that international law doesn’t matter to him. The only thing that matters to him is his own morality,” Ruffalo said.
He went on to label the U.S. president a “convicted felon,” among other criticisms, before arguing that Trump was unfit for office.
“If we’re relying on this guy’s morality for the most powerful country in the world, then we’re all in a lot of trouble,” he added. “I love this country. And what I’m seeing here happening is not America.”
Mark Ruffalo Took Aim At John Fetterman
4More recently, Ruffalo took aim at U.S. Senator John Fetterman after the Democrat reiterated his support for Israel during a podcast appearance with Jon Stewart.
Taking to X, the actor called on Fetterman to resign, claiming he no longer appeared to be working in the interests of American citizens.
“Here’s the problem. When you put another country above the USA, when you are in the US government, no matter what you say, you aren’t working for the American people. Go be a lobbyist,” Ruffalo wrote.
“Register as a lobbyist for a foreign government and make your living that way, but don’t take a paycheck from the US taxpayer. Get out of representing the people of the USA,” the Marvel star added.
