K-pop influencer Mina Chan has died at age 26 following an intense wave of online criticism from members of the ENHYPEN fandom. The Japanese social media personality, who lived in South Korea and posted under the username sweeter_nk, died by suicide on August 5. Police reportedly responded after receiving a call concerning a livestream involving a Japanese influencer in her 20s. Chan’s death was confirmed the following day in a statement posted by an account said to belong to her younger sister.
Chan had built a following through her popular ENHYPEN fan account and became a familiar face within the boy band’s international fandom. She regularly attended the group’s concerts and fan-signing events and was especially vocal about her support for Ni-ki, ENHYPEN’s Japanese member.
In the days preceding her death, however, Chan faced mounting criticism over an interaction at a United States concert in late July. Chan reportedly attempted to have fellow ENHYPEN member Sunoo deliver flowers to Ni-ki. Some fans accused her of overstepping boundaries and attempting to draw attention away from the event.
The criticism continued online, prompting Chan to publish a lengthy apology on X.
Influencer Apologized To Sunoo And His Fans
Chan expressed regret over the flower incident and acknowledged that her actions may have placed Sunoo in an uncomfortable position. “I feel like my actions ended up taking advantage of Sunoo’s kindness,” she wrote. “I’m truly sorry. I feel so apologetic toward Sunoo and all the Sunoo fans.”
Chan also reflected on the number of ENHYPEN events she had attended and admitted that the repeated interactions had affected the way she viewed her relationship with the performers. “By attending ENHYPEN’s fansigns multiple times, I had deluded myself into thinking I was closer to the members than I actually was,” she continued.
The influencer went on to apologize for how she conducted herself during the American concert. “I deeply regret the rude behavior I exhibited in America. I ruined the atmosphere of the venue by prioritizing my own desire to meet Ni-ki over the precious time Ni-ki, who loves America so much, deserved. I’m truly sorry.”
She concluded the message by addressing the people who had followed her fan account. “To everyone who has supported me as sweeter_nk until now, thank you so much.”
Police Are Reportedly Investigating The Circumstances
According to South Korean news agency Yonhap, police received a report at approximately 5:33 a.m. on August 5 about a Japanese influencer in her 20s who was attempting suicide during a TikTok livestream. Seoul’s Yongsan Police Station is reportedly investigating the circumstances surrounding Chan’s death.
An account believed to belong to Chan’s younger sister confirmed the loss through an Instagram Story on August 6. “My beloved older sister, who was always kind and warm to everyone she met, has passed away,” the statement read.
The family member said she would not disclose additional details about Chan’s passing and requested compassion as the family grieves. “I kindly ask that you keep my sister in your thoughts and prayers,” she concluded.
No further statement from Chan’s family was included in the available reporting.
Her Death Follows A Separate TikTok Livestream Incident
News of Chan’s death comes as another disturbing livestream involving celebrity blogger Perez Hilton has raised concerns about self-harm content appearing on social media. The two incidents are unrelated.
Hilton recently broadcast a TikTok livestream in which he appeared to engage in acts of self-harm. The video was later removed from the platform, but clips continued circulating elsewhere on social media.
The distressing broadcast prompted multiple calls to authorities, and Miami-Dade County deputies responded to Hilton’s South Florida home that night. Hilton was subsequently transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.
Perez Hilton And Mina Chan’s Families Ask For Privacy
According to an official update from his family, he remains in “serious but stable” condition after experiencing “significant blood loss and … additional injuries that will require surgery.”
Hilton’s family has requested privacy while he receives treatment and begins what they described as a lengthy recovery process.
Chan’s family has similarly asked the public to remember her while allowing those closest to her to grieve privately.
