For the occasion, the Fever star stepped out in a simple white cropped t-shirt that showed off her abs. Cunningham, who styled her long hair in waves, completed her look with white thong sandals. She didn’t go overboard with accessories by only wearing a set of diamond stud earrings, though went for a full makeup that enhanced her features.

Sparking Major Controversy Over Transgender Stance

Cunningham has been making headlines for her opposition to transgender athletes competing in women’s sports, which has ignited rallies in support of and opposed to her stance. In July, she told ESPN that her controversial remarks is a matter of common sense.

“I want to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn’t have to go against biological men,” Cunningham explained. “I was asked a question and that’s simply what it was. I wasn’t trying to make a statement.”

WNBA’s Stance On The Matter

During a game in Atlanta between the Dream and the Fever, there were fans who were asked by WNBA security personnel to cover their shirts bearing messages about transgender women participating in women’s sports, as reported by CBS News. Several of them wore shirts bearing a message that women’s and girls’ sports should be restricted to those assigned female at birth, while another was wearing a shirt showing support to transgender people.

The league have previously stated that people are free to wear the shirts, stating: “The WNBA is aware of interactions at (Sunday) night’s game in Atlanta in which fans were asked by league security to cover their shirts,” adding, “This should not have happened.”

Coaches Voice Their Opinions

Minnesota Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve had shared her opinion on the matter earlier this month by wearing a light blue shirt under her jacket that said, “Trans kids belong.”

The WNBA players’ association released a statement emphasizing diversity and inclusion, saying the group “will not be used as political pawns.”

The statement read: “We embrace justice equity, diversity, and inclusion,” adding, “Those are the values that unite this Union and allow it to protect women’s sports while creating transformational change. Hate, abuse, and demonization of any person or group of people, including transgender people, only fuel fear, division, and harm. We will continue to have hard conversations. But we will not be used as political pawns.”
