A Nigerian lawyer has stirred reactions online after sharing blunt advice on what to do if a partner suddenly dies in your house.

In a viral video shared on TikTok, the lawyer warned that panicking and running away could permanently ruin a person’s life, even if they are completely innocent.

Speaking in the video, he cautioned that fleeing the scene immediately places suspicion on the individual involved.

“Don’t run. If you run, it will automatically be presumed that you are guilty, and it will become very difficult to prove your innocence,” he said.

According to him, the moment someone escapes from such a situation, law enforcement authorities are more likely to assume wrongdoing, making the legal process far more complicated.

He also warned against tampering with the scene, stressing that people should never touch the body, clean bloodstains, or wipe any surface.

The lawyer explained that altering the scene could easily be interpreted as an attempt to destroy evidence, which may lead to serious legal consequences, including imprisonment.

Emphasising the importance of timing, he advised that the police should be contacted immediately once the incident occurs.

He further advised that a lawyer should be contacted immediately after calling the police to avoid making statements under pressure or saying anything that could later be used against the individual in court.

According to him, if the police arrive before legal counsel, there is only one statement that should be made.

“She passed away and I reported immediately. That’s all. Don’t say anything else unless your lawyer is present,” he added.

The video has sparked widespread discussion online, with many Nigerians describing the advice as frightening but necessary.
