“I need just $10,000 for my daughter bride price before you can marry her, because I know what I spent to make her this beautiful.”

The statement, which many found shocking and uncomfortable, quickly went viral.

While some people laughed it off as a joke or exaggeration, others saw it as a worrying reflection of how marriage is slowly being commercialised.

Critics say reducing a woman’s worth to money no matter how beautiful or well-raised she is misses the entire point of marriage.
