A Nigerian lady shares an experience at a supermarket that, according to her, reflects why some men miss potential romantic opportunities due to poor social awareness and lack of courtesy.
In her account, the woman explained that she was standing in line at a supermarket checkout when a man ahead of her noticed she had only a few items to purchase.
She said he observed her closely throughout the payment process, including when she struggled briefly to retrieve her card and complete the transaction.
According to her, the situation became awkward when the man, after allowing her to pay for her items without any gesture of assistance or courtesy, approached her afterward to compliment her appearance and request her phone number.
She described feeling displeased by what she perceived as misplaced timing and a lack of gentlemanly conduct.
The lady emphasized that her frustration was not about financial capability, as she could afford her purchases, but about first impressions and consideration.
She argued that small acts of courtesy can leave a lasting impression and cost nothing, adding that approaching someone romantically after ignoring such moments can come across as insensitive.

“This is how some guys lose their future wife for silly and lack of courtesy. Now, so one time I went to buy something at a supermarket. And you know how the supermarket is, right? When you want to pay at the register, there’s going to be a long queue, especially if there are a lot of people that wants to pay, right? So, this guy, they were attending to this guy at the time and I was the next in line. So, I only just bought something of like maybe 10k, or abi 8k, abi how much, I wan buy that day. So, this guy was looking at me. Paying his own, you know, right? Put it on the counter and then they were trying to punch it and check the price and everything. So he looked at my own basket and was like, oh, this is the only thing you bought. I was like, oh, yes. He was like, oh, okay, no problem. And that was all. After he now finished paying for his own. was watching me. He watched me remove my card. Struggled to remove my card from my purse. Stretched it out. Gave it to the lady. He watched me press my pin. And this guy could not save me. This guy could not stop it and sweep in like a superman and say, no, no, no, don’t worry. I got it. I got it. After a minute and I finished paying. He now, after I finished praying, he now came to me and said, hey, hello, you’re very beautiful. Can I have your number? If you see the eye where I used to look at, if you see the eye where I used to look at, Babajo, he respected himself straight. I don’t understand. You watched me struggle to remove my card and pay. And you were there. You didn’t have the guts to come and meet me and ask for my number. As per what? I don’t understand. See, it’s better you don’t even… Act like as if you don’t even see me. Just act like as if you didn’t see me. If me and you are on the same queue, on the same line, and I’m about to pay, throw away your face. hide yourself among the crowd loss loss yourself for the crowd like say you don’t even see me you know even you know see where to dissolve yes then maybe after then if i say that okay you didn’t see me i cannot give you the listening ears and be like okay yeah he didn’t see me so it’s not his fault but say you see me you look me i bought our two our eye jam you see me struggle to pay for myself and you now come and meet me afterward and say can i have your number Let some guys be having sense. I don’t get it. You’re not asking for my number? See, it’s not like I couldn’t pay for my stuff, right? No, that’s not the issue. But you see that first impression that lasts longer matters a lot. It costs you nothing to act like a gentleman. It costs you nothing. How much do I buy? How much do I buy? Don’t be saying I can’t go buy. How much do I buy? Just see. I’m going to make it make sense.”
